Reducing Tantrums with Outdoor Activities!

Outdoor Activities and Temper Tantrums - Keeping Your Kids in Check

Once you become a parent, you realize how normal it is for kids to throw a tantrum. There is no timetable they follow or a specific reason behind it; you never know when your child is going to have a meltdown. You can be in a public place and any little thing can just set them off. The question is, how can parents manage their kids to keep their temper tantrums to a minimum? Outdoor activities can be immensely helpful in this situation because they help in burning off the excess energy children have and also aid in keeping their emotions in check.
Sure, a child's tantrum is dreadful, but it mostly occurs because children tend to be hyperactive and like to use their energy for something or the other. Sometimes, it is in the form of a meltdown. Whether you want to manage the terrible twos or are dealing with a 5-year-old tantrum, these outdoor activities are a great way to distract kids and put their energy elsewhere:

-       Water balloon fight

This activity is quite handy when it is hot because tempers are running high and both parents and children may explode at some point. A water balloon fight can keep everyone cool and prevent any major tantrums effectively. All you have to do is take some water balloons, fill them with water, make teams and start fighting. It is fun and a relief in the hot weather.

-       Bike riding

Another outdoor activity that can keep your kids from going into meltdown mode is riding a bike. You can take them with you to shop for a good bike that they can take around the block on a regular basis. Not only is it healthy, but also an excellent way of dealing with their hyperactivity. When your child comes home exhausted, they are less likely to throw a tantrum.

-       Hide and Seek

Yes, it is a classic game that kids of all times have played. Chances are you also played it when you were a kid and there is absolutely no harm in letting your kid do the same. Everyone has their own variation. You can count to ten or twenty and start looking for the other players. Sometimes you can make a home base where people can be ‘safe’ or sometimes you just wait to be found. Either way, it is a fun game that can keep the kids moving and not leave any room for temper tantrums.

-       Mud painting

This is one of the most unique outdoor activities you can try out with your kids. Children are mostly fascinated with mud and you can put their interest to good use. As the name indicates, rather than using regular paints and colors to do some painting, you can use mud in its place. This can be a fun time because kids have to come up with different things they can make. It keeps them busy for a while and in control.

Using these outdoor activities can be incredibly effective in reducing and even eliminating temper tantrums completely.
